Frequently Asked Questions

Taking / Extracting LIVE hair roots (grafts/follicular units/hair strands) from back side of scalp and implanting them on bald areas is called HAIR TRANSPLANT. These implanted hairs will grow as your natural hairs. You can cut, trim, color or shave them, they would grow normally again. Pioneer is one of the best hair transplant centers in India and we offer best services at reasonable cost with best outcome

Bonding and weaving are NON-SURGICAL also called as WIGS. These are hair systems which are often detachable and also attached with gum / clips. We DON'T offer these services.

If you have enough donor hair on the back side of your head to cover your baldness with descent density, HAIR TRANSPLANT is the best option. Its natural and the implanted hair will grow as normal hair.

If you don't have any hair even at back side of head, you can opt for BONDING and WEAVING (if required). We DON'T offer these services.

A graft is defined as bunch of roots/hairs combined as a unit, which might have 1/2/3/4 hair follicle attached to it. On an average out of 1000 grafts taken out, 400 to 500 will be of single hair follicles which will be primarily used for creating front hair line naturally, about 450 to 500 will be 2 or 3 hairs in binded roots which are used for vertex and for mid-scalp and about 50 or less with 4 hairs. So, on an average each graft will contain 2+ hairs. Having single grafts (natural ones without dividing them in lab) in hair line will give natural look. On vertex and crown, we can have double and triple grafts which give bulkiness and density on the top and gives a decent look. Elsewhere many clinics count graft as single hairs. You must cross check this twice, i.e after implanting 1000 grafts you are assumed to get 1000 hairs. But at Pioneer 1000 grafts will result in minimum 2000+ hair strands / hairs / single follicles. This is about FUT. For FUE its about 1.5 hair strands per graft on an average.

We count the grafts ( single , double , triple and four as SINGLE UNIT ) and charge as per actual where as many clinics ( not all ) charge per hair as single graft which is extrapolation of cost and not correct as far as count is concerned. Here in our clinic, you can actually check the counting manually by yourself OR by your attender during the procedure.

There is NOTHING called UNLIMITED grafts hair transplant. For every individual, donor grafts are very much limited. Below facts might help you for better clarifty.

For FUT, maximum donor area for an average individual is 30 cms with + or - 2 cm variation i.e LENGTH and BREADTH can vary from 1 cm to max 1.5 cms depending on skin laxity in one single session. Very rarely it gets to 2 cms in breadth. This implies average AREA of FUT donor can range from 29 sq cms to maximum 48 sq cms. These are practical calculations.

Ideally every individual might have 100 grafts per sq cm and very rarely 120 grafts per sq cm. But practically its very very rare. You might NOT see a person with 120 grafts per sq cm even one in one lakh sample. Average individual has 60 to 80 grafts per sq cm (in practice).

This implies average a good donor can yield about 29X60 to max 45X80 i.e 1740 grafts to Max 3600 grafts with FUT. In cases where you can get 100 grafts per sq cm, we can extract MAX of about 4500 grafts using FUT. This is the MAX NUMBER OF GRAFTS anyone can extract from an individual with FUT. Its NOT UNLIMITED.

Example 1:

In normal cases, average density is 50 to 60 grafts per sq cm. They might yeild 1500 to 2250 grafts. In this case unlimited grafts equals to 2250 grafts only.

Example 2

In few cases where average density is 40 grafts per sq cm, they might yeild about 1200 to 1800 grafts max with FUT. In such case unlimited grafts are equal to 1800 grafts only.

By Combining above FUT with COMBI techniques i.e FUT + FUE done on same day, we can extract another 1000 to 1500 grafts extra on top of above MAX GRAFTS.

BUT, if you count grafts as single follicles i.e single hair strands, then above values double. The new range will be (3600 grafts) 7200 single follicles to (4500 grafts) 9000 single follicles (But NOT standard grafts). You can notice this small trick in mathematics below those advertisements in very small invisible fonds with (*) mark while many clinics advertise 10,000 follicles in one single session.

Absolutely NO. Explained above in-detail.

But, if you count graft as single follicle of hair, then in ideal donor, it can be acheived. But not in all cases.

But, it cannot be done by only FUT. If you can combine FUT and FUE together, then it can be acheived. Its called COMBI session.

One single session in hair transplant: Hair Transplant proceedure performed either by one or more hair transplant techniques on a single given patient on the same (single) day.

If a session is performed on a given patient first day and another session is performed on second day, its NOT called as single session. They are called multiple sessions.

If a session is performed on a given patient and another session is performed on a different patient on the same day, its NOT termed as single session.

Normally implanted hairs are very short of 1 to 3 mm length (max). These short hair transplants will help in many ways. Just imagine if you are given big treas to plant !!!, how close you can plant ? May be 3 or 4 in one sq meter or max 10 ? Will all these big treas grow after few months ? If you are given small plants, you can easily plant them very close to each other. Definitely with 200% to 400% high density compared to big plants. You can see the results once these plants grow. The only advantage of big trees would be a immediate temporary coverage and not full density. Coming back to hair transplant, no matter you implant small size grafts or long hair transplants, they tend to fall in first two to four weeks. Majority of the grafts fall during this period and they will grow back after six months.. In such case, there is no special benefit with long hair transplants. Also, maintenance of these long hair transplants in first few weeks is very tidious job and you cannot wash them properly till they fall. For better results, its always advisable to have short hair transplant and with trimmed scalp / shaved scalp to ensure safety and minimal damage to surrounding existing hair (if any).

STEM CELLS are NOT HAIR GRAFTS and they are NOT HAIR ROOTS. They are just supporting cells which can help to grow the implanted hairs by hair transplantation. NO hair will grow without a root and these stem cells are NOT hair roots or hair cells. If someone advertise STEMS cells grow new hair or generate new permanant hair, then its obsolutely FAKE.

There is NO TECHNOLOGY called HAIR MULTIPLICATION. If someone advertise of multiplying 1000 hairs into 4000 hairs, its absolutely FALSE. Its all FAKE.

There is NO TECHNOLOGY called HAIR CLONING. If someone advertise of cloning of 100 hairs into unlimited hairs, its absolutely FALSE. Its all FAKE.

PRP stands for PLATELET RICH PLASMA. Your own blood will be processed in centrifuge for rich platelets and injected back on the scalp. This will help to increase blood supply to existing roots and help to retain them from further hair fall to some extent. This is mostly helpful for the age group of 20 to 25 years where the roots are still alive and yet to fall. But once the roots are dead and a person gets bald, PRP cannot grow any new hair.

YES, you can notice small miniature hair growing with PRP (multiple sessions). But they can be mostly seen by a microscope or by folliscope. For naked eye they are very tiny / almost invisible and cannot cover your scalp. They are not much of use to cover your baldness. They normally don't grow lengtheir. They tend to fall once you stop having PRP sessions. One cannot take PRP sessions for lifelong.

YES, in some cases, you can see improvement in existing hair density. But NO NEW MATURE hairs will grow with PRP. This improvement in density is due to thickening of existing hair shafts. 100 hairs mimic like 120 hairs as their shaft diameter increases. But once you stop PRP, it gets back to same old state. PRP definitely has good role in controlling hairloss, but it cannot grow any new hairs for a bald person. For diffuse pattern hair loss, PRP can be used as a substitute.

There is NO age limit for hair transplant, provided you are physically fit and your health is normal. But normally the best age to undergo hair transplant is above 25 years. We have performed hair transplants for 65+ year old cases too and the results were very much satisfactory.

For special cases and consideration, please contact Dr Sreedhar Reddy for proper evaluation and better advice.

Technically, life of transplanted hair will be as long as you have hairs at back side of head. Normally back side donor hairs have complete life-time as long as you live. So, transplanted hair will also have very longer life-time. But in few cases a person might loose hair at back side of head too. In such case, he will loose transplanted hairs too (though its very rare). Its been observed that transplanted hair will tend to become thin after few years of transplant (say 5 to 10 years after transplant).

NO. Hair Transplant is NOT a solution for existing hair loss. After transplant we can help you with medication to protect your existing hairs to some extent. This can help to protect your existing hairs for few months to years. But if your heriditory/genetical implant on hair loss is more then medicines cannot help much to stop your further hair loss of non-transplanted hairs.

YES, provided its performed by proper skilled and experienced team.

NO. Most of the implanted hairs fall in first 2 to 3 weeks. You can see NO growth in first 2 to 3 months. There will be very small change noticed after 4 months. You can appreciate change by 6 to 8 months with about 70% to 90% growth. Complete matured growth can be seen after 12 months.

Its a tricky question.

If someone has very small bald area, say 10 sq cms, he/she can expect very high density. But its very rare.

Graft requirement will always be more than your donor availability. A bald person always wants / needs more grafts than his donor capacity. Imagine if you are completely bald by 100 sq cms, you would need 50 grafts per sq cm to have complete density. i.e about 50,000 grafts. No individual will have 50,000 grafts donor. If we harvest all 50,000 grafts from donor, back side of head will become complete bald. We have to extract grafts in such a way that back side of head looks normal (baldness not noticible) and also covers the frontal / top bald areas with aesthetically improved change in appearance.

One can undergo hair transplant to the max limit of his donor capacity. Donor can be either from back side of scalp or beard or chest or from any other body parts.

One graft at PIONEER equals about two single follicles of hairs i.e two hair strands. To know graft count which can bring aesthetic change in your appearance please click here.

We offer both FUT and FUE techniques and also combination of both (termed as COMBI). To know more about these techniques, please choose HAIR TRANSPLANT option from main-menu on top of this page banner.

Yes, in some cases.

In some cases, you will not have much choice. You should go as per surgeon's advice.

Its a very tricky question. Answer differs from case to case which is based on their requirement / expectations/ bald area / donor area / FUE feasibility / Quality of existing grafts / Skin laxity / affordability etc. Please consult doctor for personal evaluation for better advice.

Below aspects might help you to choose best doctor / clinic for your hair transplant.

1. First and fore-most thing. Experience of doctor and also the team. Normally, its advisable that one must have min 5 years of experience to produce good results.

2. Also, need to check whether its exclusive hair transplant clinic or doctor OR a part-time doctor / clinic which performs hair transplant ocasssionally along with other cosmetic proceedures.

3. You need to ask for BEFORE / AFTER cases ( Minimum 100 cases ). Also you should ask for VIDEO demos and NOT PHOTOGRAPHS while they illustrate before and after cases.

4. If possible, request to meet up old patients and try to check the results directly rather than advertisements or by promotional aspects.

5. Check the qualification of the doctor. Its advisable that you undergo transplant under MBBS doctor OR any post-graduate with surgical background.

6. Check the team size physically. If its a team of 2 to 4, they might NOT be able to carry out hair trasnplant sessions for more than 2000 grafts. A min team of 15 members are required to carry out a mega session of 3500 to 4500 grafts.

7. Clinic setup and sterilization department is very much needed to ensure safety of the patient. Request the concerned staff to help you to visit the sterilization department and demand for the protocols which the clinics follow for sterilization and safety of the patient.

8. Indian skin is different. Completely different from other white and dark skin which you normally see in USA and AFRICAN countries. One must have high experience to carry out hair transplant on Indian patients. But, normally a doctor who has high experience with Indian skin can easily perform hair transplant proceedure for a white skin patient. Having a foreign doctor performing your transplant might NOT have any better edge or benefit compared to a experienced Indian doctor performing your hair transplant.

9. If the transplant surgeon has vast experience in conducting workshops and traninigs in hair transplantation, it will be an added advantage. .

10. If the clinic is managed by doctor himself ? Or its a chain of clinics which are operated by corporate investors by rotating trainee staff on a regular basis !!! You mostly see many beauty parlors offering hair transplant services these days. Most of them are NOT doctors, they simply wear white apron and host their TV shows in different channels on a weekly basis to woo patients with low cost hair transplant services.

Usually transplanted hair have got life as long as you have hair at back side of head (normal donor area). Usually whole life time. Though they tend to fall, they grow back. But over span of time (say 5 to 10 years), they tend to become little thin.

If you are expecting head full of hair with 100% density, then hair transplant might NOT be the correct choice for you. If you are expecting a good change in your appearance, then transplant will surely help. Below are the normal density units which you can expect from hair transplant.

1. 10 grafts per sq cm..........NO much change in appearance at all. NOT RECOMMENDED

2. 15 grafts per sq cm.........OK, but not preferred on the front side of the head. Mostly done at mid-scalp.

3. 20 grafts per sq cm.........GOOD density for mid-scalp.

4. 25 grafts per sq cm ........GOOD density for hair line design. VERY GOOD for mid-scalp.

5. 30 grafts per sq cm ....... VERY GOOD density for hair line design.

6. 35 grafts per sq cm ........HIGH DENSITY for hair line design.

7. 40 grafts per sq cm ........VERY HIGH DENSITY for hair line (provided they all are single grafts)

8. 50 grafts per sq cm........ It can be easily done, but you cannot expect 100% growth there.

Implanting 60 to 80 grafts per sq cm is NOT A BIG DEAL. You can expect 100% density with hair transplant, provided you have enough donor area. BUT, its NOT advisable to implant more than 40 grafts per sq cm, as they don't grow.

If you want more density, then it should be done in phases in multiple sessions. You can plan 40% density in first session and wait for few months and let the first session implanted hair grow, later you can plan for remaining 40% density. If you plan total 80% in first session itself, all the grafts might NOT grow due to compromised blood supply to these grafts from your scalp underneath the skin in the existing bald areas.

Kindly Note:

Grafts mentioned above are NOT single hair or single follicles (if otherwise not mentioned exclusively). On an average a graft or a follicular unit contains about 2+ hairs / hair strands / single follicles.

YES, provided you have enough donor hairs left over. Also, you should have strong interest and zeal and also enough time to get this repair done. Sometimes repair needs 2 to 3 or more sessions over a span of few days to few weeks regularly.

Important note:

Hair transplant is NOT any complete replacement of your existing hairs. Its only a camouflage technique where-in we can take 1000 to 4500 grafts in one session and cover the bald areas to have better look and hide baldness to a appreciable extent depending on donor limits and bald area requirements.

If you are expecting head full of hair OR expecting 100% density, then hair transplant will NOT help. It can help only to improve your present condition to better.

Example 1:

If you have bald area of about 100 sq cms, then your existing hairs there ( say 10 to 20 years back ) are about min 100 gr per sq cm.
Total grafts are about 10,000 grafts.
If you have lost 50% of them, you need min 5000 grafts to cover the same bald area to have 100% density. Buf if we are covering the bald area with 25 grafts per sq cm, then you might need about 2500 grafts. With available 2500 grafts, we can bring 25% improvement of density there ( which is extra on top of existing 50% density. Overall it will be 75% of your old existing density ).

Example 2:

From above 75% density, if you loose your old hair by half or full, then you are left with again 20 to 25 % of hair which are only transplanted hair.

Example 3:

If you have complete bald area of about 100 sq cms, then your existing hairs there ( say 10 to 20 years back ) are about min 100 gr per sq cm.
Total grafts are about 10,000 grafts.
If you have lost 100% of them, you need min 10,000 grafts to cover the same bald area to have 100% density. Buf if we are covering the bald area with 25 grafts per sq cm, then you might need about 2500 grafts. With available 2500 grafts, we can bring 25% improvement of density there ( Its only 25% density overall ).

Hair transplant is not any solution for your existing hair fall. Your existing hair fall may or may not continue irrespective of hair transplant.

Transplanted hair normally will have life for a very long time. Normally as long as you have back side hairs, you will have transplanted hair.

In few cases, back side hair also falls and it implies same for transplanted hair too. It's rare. But seen in few cases. It's Heriditory.

Many cases, transplanted hair gets thin after say 4 to 8 years. It's normal.

But your existing non-transplanted hair may or may not live for a long time. It depends mostly on your genetical pattern.

With few medicines, we can postpone your baldness of non-transplanted hairs to few months to years, but we cannot completely stop them from falling for ever. With high dosage of medicines, it might adversely affect you in many ways and hence not advisable.

Hope above clarification helps you to understand the basic concept of hair transplant and its limitations. So we cannot put you for life long medicines or cannot prescribe you high dosage medicines.

We have implanted hairs for thousands of patients and they are very happy. It improved their condition to better and satisfied. But, if anyone is expecting 100% density like how you had 10 or 20 years back, then transplant might not help him. Its not any substitute to your existing hairs.

Below is the protocol ( break-up schedule ) for HT.

*1. Planning and markings ( Done by Dr Reddy alone ). .... About 30 mins

2. Trimming and preparation ( Team ) .... About 30 mins

*3. FUT Graft Harvestation ( Dr Reddy alone ).... About 30 mins.

*4. FUT's Trychophytic closure ( Dr Reddy alone ) .... About 15 mins.

*5. FUE Graft Harvestation ( Dr Reddy & Team ).... About 60 to 180 mins.

6. Graft Processing in Lab ( Team ) ... About 2 hours done parallely. .

*7. Implanting site preparation on your scalp ( Dr Reddy alone )... About 40 mins.

8. Implantation ( Laborious work, By : Team , Under Dr Reddy's supervision )..... About 2 to 3 hours.

9. Bandaging ( Team ) ... About 15 mins.

10. Bandage removal next day ( Team )... About 30 mins.

Imagine you are undergoing hair transplant for about 3000 FUT grafts. To extract 3000 grafts with FUT alone, it just takes about 30 mins and Dr Sreedhar Reddy alone will perform FUT harvestation and closure using Trychophytic closure.

Imagine you are undergoing hair transplant for about 2500 FUE grafts. To extract 2500 grafts with FUE alone, it takes about 2 to 3 hours which Dr Sreedhar Reddy and team will do FUE harvestation.

Alone Dr Sreedhar Reddy OR any other doctor alone cannot extract all 2500 grafts in single session regularly. Its a team work shared with frequent breaks every 30 mins. If a single person had to extract all 2500 grafts, it will atleast take 4 seconds for each graft extraction (by highly experienced person) which will result in about 15 grafts per minute and about 900 grafts per hour. So 2500 grafts will take about min 2 to 3 hours if there is NO break in middle. Also, if someone extracts all 2500 grafts without break, he/she will have muscle fatigue and cannot peform hair transplant the next day. So extraction is done by team of 2 to 3 team members along with Dr Sreedhar Reddy.

Same applies for implantation too.

Majority of the work is done by Dr Sreedhar Reddy. All the important tasks are carried by him personally and the graft procession and other labor work is done by team of highly skilled and trained team members.

YES, but absorbable sutures might live a small protrution while they heal and mix-up with external skin. Normal removable sutures are the best option as it would not leave such projections.

NO, its NOT possible even with your own parents/siblings.

No side effects and no complications from the HT proceedures There is 1% chance of folliculitis but it can be easily manageable with medication. Remember ! Hair transplantation at Pioneer Hair Care is performed by highly experienced specialist who is not only a master in hair transplantation surgeries but also a very reputed maxillo factial and facial cosmetic surgeon.

Yes. You will suit hair transplantation (provided you have hair – at least 20% at the back of the scalp. Once the transplant is done, we will prescribe medicines/diet and precautions which will completely stop your further hair loss. Transplanted hair will grow as new.

NO. It can be manageable. You can travel back to your home after the transplantation, the same day.

Yes ! Definitely. You can read the testimonials listed in this website and you can also talk to some of the patients who had undergone hair transplantation at Pioneer Hair Care and share their experiences. We can do this only after you have completed personal consultation with Dr. Reddy.

We have 30 queries every day and have one or two HT procedures on a given date. We cannot provide the references to all the customers who enquire for HT. We hope you understand our limitations and respect the privacy of our customers.

After hair transplant surgery, it takes somewhere between 6 to 12 months for healing and then the transplanted follicles begin to grow hair that will fill out the bald patches on your scalp. This hair grows naturally but at some point, they may gradually stop producing as much hair as they used to, since the transplanted ones too have a definite lifespan.

Just after hair transplant treatment, hairs will fall within 2 to 3 weeks and new hair will regrow in its place. You won’t lose the transplanted hair, though you might experience hair-loss of natural hair of the surrounding area as you age.

Hair transplant is reliable and long-lasting. Hair transplant treatments mostly involve the surgery and there is no artificial hair or any other substance is used. It can be considered as a fine work of medical science. Though you need to be conscious while choosing a clinic/experts for hair loss treatment, otherwise you might experience undesired results.

For the hair transplantation to be successful, the hair follicles should be vascularised or transplanted quickly. If they remain in the open air, their life and performance after transplant will be poorer. If follicles are placed promptly and properly, the success rate of hair transplantation increases significantly.

Like every other medical procedure, hair transplantation too has several risks. Certain complications may happen like pain, infection and visible scars, although these are very rare. Just after the surgery, you may feel a certain degree of numbness and pain, that can be easily controlled with suitable medication.

Yes, as the hair transplant doctors take donor hair from your own scalp or body part, they look quite consistent with the surrounding area. Although, visually they may look similar but growth might differ from the hairs of the surrounding area, as they have different growth patterns depending on their original area and other biological factors.
